OVERVIEW
Innovation, decision-making and creative thinking can lie at the heart of personal and business success. Innovation sits in the Sustainability element of the Investors in Learning Driving Success Model. This is because crucially in today’s fast- changing world and the world of technology, without Innovation, and staying up-to-date and informed about current and evolving trends, businesses will quickly be left behind.
We all need to have the right mindset, curiosity and attitude, as well as some crucial traits to ensure that we can support the development of ideas which can be turned into action to support our businesses to stay competitive and fresh in the market place. We need to deliberately take on the persona of innovator on a regular basis so that we do not fall into the trap of living in a bubble of complacency , steady state and Business as Usual. We have seen many businesses fold as a result of not thinking of creative and innovative ways in which they could change their identity, refresh their vision, change their communication strategy, shine in a new and different way. We should never underestimate the importance of creativity and innovation in our organisational lives today.
Identifying where to innovate and where to continue in what we may call steady state, is a key decision that needs conscious attention and focus. Complacency certainly is not an option in today’s fast moving digital world. Of course the pace will vary depending on which sector you are working in, but we all need to be open to change and see innovation as a core and essential skill set.
Imagination is envisioning things that don’t exist, creativity is applying imagination to address a challenge. Innovation is applying creativity to generate unique solutions, while entrepreneurship is applying innovations, scaling the ideas, by inspiring others’ imagination.

Fostering Innovation and Creative Thinking
For Individuals, Teams and Organisations
When something can’t be solved by a practical approach, creative thinking can help you see around a problem positively and get to where you need to be by looking at it from another angle. It works just as well where there are strict rules as it does when you have a blank canvas; though some of the most successful creative outcomes have resulted from people questioning established thinking and ways of doing things. Creative thinking loves a challenge.
Being able to make conscious and effective decisions is important to all of us, both in our personal life and for our business development but identifying solutions and wise decisions is sometimes a challenge. You can develop the skills to generate new ideas that will make a difference within your organisation. Ideas that will help you and your company do things better, faster, smarter, cheaper, in a more sustainable way.
Creative thinking (a companion to critical thinking) is an invaluable skill for everyone. It is important because it helps you look at problems and situations from a fresh perspective. Creative thinking is a way to develop novel or unorthodox solutions that do not depend wholly on past or current solutions. It’s a way of employing strategies to clear your mind so that your thoughts and ideas can transcend what appear to be the limitations of a problem. Creative thinking is a way of moving beyond barriers.
As a creative thinker, you are curious, optimistic, and imaginative. You see problems as interesting opportunities, and you challenge assumptions and suspend judgment. You don’t give up easily. You work hard.
Is this you? Even if you don’t yet see yourself as a competent creative thinker or problem-solver, these are skills we can foster, practise and develop.
There are a lot of benefits of creativity in the workplace:

- Improved ability to attract and retain quality employees
- Increased staff morale, fun and happiness

This programme will support you to:
- Understand the traits required to be an innovative creative thinker
- Develop and improve your creative thinking skills
- Understand your own qualities and habits as a decision maker
- Use a variety of decision-making techniques
- Develop a solution focused mindset to remove any mental barriers to tackling issues or seeking new ideas
Innovation, decision-making and creative thinking can lie at the heart of a successful team. As a team we can harness creative thinking in a way that we cannot do as an individual. If we can all work together effectively and with the right approach, then we can create new ideas which can foster new ways of working as well as ensuring that we stay ahead of the curve. The more we train our minds and support each other as a team, the better these skills can become. A self-supporting team in the context of a Healthy Learning Culture can create some amazing opportunities to create and innovate. The traits associated with Innovative thinking skills and the right mindset will become increasingly more sought after in this changing world.
