OVERVIEW

People – At the Heart of your Business and your Success

This Programme includes all the essential ingredients that we need as human beings in order to be motivated and engaged. If we are to use our energy to support any organisation into the long term, we need certain key aspects to be fulfilled. If we are to support the success of any organisation we need to feel engaged emotionally, we need to be working with our strengths and we need to feel that we are at one with the work that we are doing. Honoring the Human Elements is fundamental to achieving long term success for ourselves as individuals, for teams or whole organisations, otherwise we will lose our greatest asset – our focus, our motivation, our passion, our engagement, our people.

What does it mean to be a fully engaged human being?

How can we function most effectively as a human being? Anyone will agree that our mind is our greatest asset. Without a fully engaged mind, we will not be performing at our best. Most people aim to be fully alert, curious, interested, full of energy and focus to fulfil our purpose within our role in life and at work. In an organisational context, we want accountability, responsibility and we want people firing on all cylinders. If we asked any leader for a wish list of what type of people we need in order to Drive Success, we would hear words such as : Confident, Motivated, Solution-focused, Engaged, Effective Communicators, Good listeners, Problem solvers, People who help to build teams, good Thinkers, Energised, Enthusiastic, Vibrant, Effective Presenters, people who take initiative, not afraid to take on a challenge. All these behaviours and attributes require a fully engaged human being.

So how do we create a fully engaged human being? In order to create full engagement, we have to honour that there are certain factors required so that people’s strengths can flourish, and people can learn how to use their strengths so that they can be the best version of themselves. We need to remember that human beings will only sustain their engagement, energy and dynamism if the environment is right. People need the right environment in order to ensure they can fulfil their potential and grow and prosper in their roles in life and work.

We know from a lot of research that human engagement will only happen if certain key factors are met. In addition, the world continues to change rapidly. Developments in globalisation, demographics, technology, regulations, politics are affecting us everywhere. There are not many certainties in life and organisations, however we all know one thing that is certain, and that is Change. Life does not stand still, and everything unfolds dynamically, and we never know what is around the corner. The pace of change is rapid and there are many disruptive forces we all need to manage. In order to manage all these unknowns we need to have people who can manage change and have the necessary ingredients to continue to perform and deliver even when the situations may be challenging. We need people to remain calm under pressure and to be agile and responsive regardless of challenging circumstances that may be beyond our control.

The question of the Human Elements and how we can maintain a balanced, calm internal state whilst the world is in such a rapid pace of change, is therefore becoming more important than ever before.

So… what are the factors that we require in order to create the best possible environment for a Human being to flourish? We believe the answer to that question is that is must be an environment in which learning can prosper and is not inhibited in any way. In a family or an organisation where Dynamic Learning is not only allowed but is pro-actively fostered, all the criteria that we require for effective functioning and the prospering of a Human Being will also be met. In order to be an effective learner, we need to feel safe and valued. We need to work in a healthy Learning environment where we can ask questions, explore issues, feel free to take balanced risks and raise ideas. Of course, we know that life and business is full of challenges and urgent situations, mistakes that need to be tackled and interpersonal issues that need to be resolved. However, in order to ensure that we can continue to function effectively during these difficult times, we need to be working in a context of a Healthy Learning Culture where we feel safe and valued; we cannot deal with threat and live in survival state exclusively.

The Human Elements, People & Self are at the heart of our Driving Success model, as this is what creates the results in anyone’s life or organisation. We need all individuals to work together in the success of any organisation. As an individual to drive our personal or business success or to be an effective leader we need to be able to understand and tackle the Human Elements in our lives. Whatever stage your business is at, whether you are just starting out, or in the endeavours to develop, grow, or maintain a business, or whether you are working in a public service, charity or community group, the People are the key ingredient that make the success happen. Unless the people are engaged and the Human Elements are consciously honoured, nothing will last for very long. People will be the Drivers of any Success through their choices of behaviours. The choices of our behaviours will determine whether or not we are successful. Peoples’ behaviours can be helpful and supportive of success or they can be harming the outcomes we desire. Behaviours are often a reflection of how we feel, which is a reflection of how we have been treated and how valued we feel in a particular context.

Therefore, the centre of our Driving Success Model has the Essential Ingredients required to support the development of an Essential Positive Learning Environment, which is fundamental to long term success. If these Ingredients are fulfilled, then you will be doing the best to create a nurturing Learning Environment.

The Elements in the Driving Success model are not mutually exclusive, and they do overlap, and influence each other. It is a model that seeks to clarify the many factors that play a role in Driving Success and help to shape our Change & Development programmes.
