About the Programme

OVERVIEW
"We've GOT to stop constantly re-inventing the wheel here!" or “If we do what we always do, we will get what we always got” Agreed?
The wisdom of learning from failure is incontrovertible. Yet organisations that do it well are extraordinarily rare.
In these changing, fast paced times, learning our lessons is more important than it has ever been before. Can we really afford the time to repeat our mistakes again and again? The truth is that if we do not learn our lessons we will be left behind.
Why? First of all, we too rarely look at Lessons Learned in terms of how and through who, value will be produced. Secondly, all too often the lack of value-creation by Lessons is because the regular actions and habits that create or leverage learning is not in any job description–in fact, in many settings it is actively discouraged by existing structures and norms, however unintentionally.
Too many Lessons Learned efforts engage people in producing what are essentially recommendations for (often unspecified) others. Learning is a dynamic and fast paced complicated process. The only way in which we will successfully create a Lessons Learned culture, is through a deliberate and planned approach, with explicit intentions. We cannot leave the Lessons Learned processes to chance. We need to prioritise and place a sense of urgency on true honest learning and upon identifying the root causes, and consistently applying the necessary corrective actions to ensure that we do not repeat avoidable, expensive, sometimes life and death mistakes, again and again. On the other side of the same coin, we also need to ensure that we learn from our successes so that we are clear about what we need to repeat as best practice.
This programme is either the first step on a journey where we can build culture change into an organisation, or this programme can be taken as a stand-alone to raise awareness in the organisation of the business benefits of pro-actively and systematically using Lessons Learned in your business.
This is for all people so that the necessary foundation and awareness raising is established. A key purpose of this programme is to ensure that all people are aware and believe in the benefits of actively working with Lessons Learned across the organisation

An introduction to the Lessons Learned Process
For Individuals, Teams and Organisations
This programme will help you understand the importance of Lessons Learned and how tried and tested processes and strategies can help you in everyday life.
By learning to review and reflect on your learning, you will become a more conscious and self- aware learner. This will support your self- development and awareness of your needs. It will ensure that you develop learning habits to ensure that you do not go through the same vicious cycles of life and that you make the most of learning from your experiences, so that you move to new levels of understanding rather than repeating the same mistakes again and again. By having strategies that support you to review and assess your learning, you will be able to develop habits that will help you throughout your life. You will be able to focus on your choices consciously and with intent to see things that you did not see before.
If you are aiming to create a Lessons Learned Culture then this programme is a vital ingredient to your strategy. This programme is an Introduction to the Lessons Learned process and represents your first step on this journey.

Does your team benefit from Lessons Learned? Does it learn from previous quality issues? A vast amount of learning takes place every day in every business setting yet the learning is often not acted upon to either maintain the success or identify areas to improve. Sharing lessons Learned improves quality and operational excellence.
This programme is a fantastic introduction to the whole area of Lessons Learned. It provides the essential overview in order to ensure that all people are on the same page and have a profound belief in the benefits that a structured approach to Lessons Learned can bring. These benefits exist at the individual, team and organisational levels.
When used well, lessons Learned can contribute to the overall success of the business by re-using and building on approaches that have worked well and avoiding the repetition of previous mistakes. Lessons Learned can also represent valuable intellectual property, deepen the relationship between suppliers and customers, and generally provide a competitive advantage. A disciplined approach to Lessons Learned can make an important difference to cost, quality and time for any size of organisation.
When we are planning a Lessons Learned Culture Change project then we will use this Introduction as the first part of the process. There are two further programmes which have been developed to create a Lessons Learned Culture and which are designed to embed the learning at a cultural level and have roles in place to ensure that cultural change is possible. Here are the three steps to give you the wider context:
Step 1 -The first step is to have a foundational programme which introduces the whole concept and culture of lessons learned. This is for all people so that the necessary foundation and awareness raising is established.
Step 2 -To train Lessons Learned Practitioners who have the skills in facilitating meetings and workshops and to create the Learning environment necessary to hear people’s stories, issues, challenges and successes
Step 3 -Here we train Lessons Learned Ambassadors in order to have people who have the role and responsibility to encourage the Lessons Learned culture and to be the agent for change that stimulates open and honest conversation.
